Meet Rachel Robson, Senior Account Manager at Vida Creative.
Great projects start with great people. Studio Stories is our way of taking you behind the scenes and introducing you to the people behind the work – sharing their backgrounds, expertise and how they help shape the Vida team.
We’re kicking things off with the newest addition to the studio: Rachel Robson, Senior Account Manager.
Tell us a bit about your background
I started out in fashion marketing, studying at Ravensbourne University in London. The course was a mix of marketing, graphic design and promotion, all based around fashion.
While I was there, I interned at Wonderland magazine as Fashion assistant, planning and assisting on photoshoots and sourcing clothing from fancy PR offices. One day, without knowing, I was sent to collect hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of Edwardian jewellery – I ended up carrying them across London on the tube!
After uni, I worked in a few different fashion marketing roles, looking after everything from campaign shoots and managing the marketing for our franchise partners across the Middle East, Far East and Europe. I eventually moved into agency life in a variety of account management roles, working on retail, branding, strategy and arts projects.
How did you end up joining the team?
I got in touch with Vida when they were looking for a senior account manager. They’d never had someone in that role before, and I loved the idea of shaping it from scratch and putting my own processes in place. Having worked at both big and small agencies, I’d seen what works (and what doesn’t!) in client services, so it felt like the right next step for me.
The culture also really appealed to me – it looked like a genuinely nice place to work where everyone got on. Especially since it’s a small team, it means we all get to work closely together, collaborate and have a real influence on how things get done.
What do you get up to in your role?
I manage projects from the very first conversation through to delivery. That means everything from writing proposals and scoping out work, to keeping things on brief, on budget and on schedule.
I’m the link between our clients and the creative team, making sure everyone’s on the same page and things run smoothly. I also spend time improving our internal processes, so we can work more efficiently and deliver the best work possible.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
The variety! In one week I might be in a brand strategy session, overseeing a website build and planning out a campaign launch. I work best when there’s a lot on at once – something about the pressure really motivates me.
In your view, what makes for great messaging?
I think sometimes the best campaigns are the simplest, where the messaging is clear and consistent across everything, it really helps with brand recognition and the audience connect with it easier.
What are your favourite TV shows?
It’s kind of one extreme to the other, I love the Real Housewives franchise and Vanderpump Rules for some guilty pleasure trash, but for a proper good series, it’s The Sopranos or Peaky Blinders.
Go-to Greggs order?
I love a Greggs breakfast – the vegan sausage sandwich, with loads of mayo (don’t knock it till you’ve tried it!) and hash browns.
And finally, what do you get up to outside of work?
I love doing Reformer Pilates, I’m there most evenings. I also love going out for food with friends, drinking pints of Guinness, and taking my border collie, Sidney, to the beach.
